LAKE HOOD FLOATPLANES – EAST VIEW
Coming to you courtesy of the Alaska Aviation Museum, this camera looks east toward Lake Spenard, providing you with a first-class view of floatplane activity in the busiest seaplane base in the world with more than 87,000 takeoffs and landings per year. There is a plane parking area in the foreground and the waterway in the middle is the landing channel connecting Lake Hood to Lake Spenard. The channel in the foreground is the high-speed taxiway and the channel in the background is the low-speed taxiway. You can see even more planes parked in the background to the left. The Chugach Mountain Range beautifully frames the scene for us in the far background.
LAKE HOOD FLOATPLANES – NORTH VIEW
Coming to you courtesy of the Alaska Aviation Museum, this camera looks north across Lake Hood, providing you with a first-class view of floatplane activity in the busiest seaplane base in the world with more than 87,000 takeoffs and landings per year. This view captures the intersection of three water runways. The buildings shown in the background on the opposite shore are various aviation companies. On a clear day, you can see the Alaska Range in the far background, about 260 miles away from Anchorage.
