Mispillion Harbor is home to a variety of birds, fish, and other animal species. Horseshoe crabs, in particular, are a major food source for many shorebirds, including the Red Knot. In fact, this area is critical for the Red Knot as a food stop and resting area on their migration route from South America to the Arctic. The DuPont Nature Center is a science-based institution that features exhibits about the natural history and ecology of Delaware Bay as well as educational opportunities such as field trips for families, groups, and schools. The observation deck at the DuPont Nature Center offers panoramic views of Mispillion Harbor and the surrounding tidal marsh, Delaware Bay, and sandy shoreline.
